Woody Bay and Killington Lane Halt  

Woody Bay Station is an original Lynton & Barnstaple station, opened in 1898, and closed along with the rest of the railway in September 1935.  Purchased by us in 1995, what you can see today at the station is just the beginning of an exciting project to rebuild one of the world's most famous and picturesque narrow gauge railways; the legendary Lynton & Barnstaple Railway.

The ideal starting point for a two mile round trip through some of the loveliest countryside in North Devon, Woody Bay Station is the place to board our little narrow gauge train for a journey back in time.

You might just see our resident buzzard flying overhead or perhaps a hare or sometimes even a deer as you experience the sights of heather- covered hills and wooded valleys of North Devon – on clear days you can see all the way across to Wales – not to be missed.

All trains run to Killington Lane Halt, where you can if you wish, leave the train and walk to other local destinations - including the lovely local village of Parracombe home to our nearest Pub - the Fox & Goose (open most days - but best to check first).  Alternatively for those with more stamina - the Hunters Inn at Heddons Mouth is also highly recommended.  When you are ready, walk back to Killington Lane Halt and catch a later train from back to Woody Bay. 

Alternatively, stay on the train for the much more exciting return journey behind a hard working steam engine up the 1 in 50 gradient to Woody Bay.

Time to spare?  As your ticket permits you to travel as many times as you wish on the day, several of our visitors come to the station in the morning - have a train ride, something to eat or drink and then go on to visit somewhere else.  Later in the day they come back for another trip.  Works very well for those families whose children need to be persuaded to leave!

You can stay on site or on our trains for as long as you like all at no extra charge. 

Savour one of our Devon Cream Tea's with home-baked scones or a luscious hand-made sandwich or slice of cake.

Visit us in the winter when you can cosy-up to our real coal fire whilst enjoying a bowl of warming home-made soup.

Outside - feel free to use our tea gardens, lawns, picnic area and platforms - all are a perfect place to relax and enjoy the magnificent views of the rolling Devon countryside - have a picnic, play with the children or just sit and watch the trains go by.
