Kenneth Deal - In Memoriam

The L&B Trust recently received the following letter:

Sadly, my 92 year old Uncle has passed away.

Throughout his life he was a locomotive and railway enthusiast and after looking at the many railway trusts, we are most impressed with the work you are doing to reinstate the railway in your wonderful part of England.

Lyd: coal-fired with a nine coach train. Worth seeing!

New build L&B loco Lyd, has recently been converted to burn coal instead of oil. Steamed for the first time as a coal burner on Monday 12th December 2011- the first time for 75 years that a coal-fired L&B loco has been seen in operation since Lew hauled the L&B's last demolition train in the summer of 1936.

Pictures from the Working Weekend.  Around 25 people on site each day. Always pleasing to see the ever growing number of new faces at these weekends.

Work in progress: 26th January

Not as many volunteers about today - perhaps several saving themselves for this weekends hectic working weekend at Chelfham. However at Woody Bay several tasks were completed today. In the shed; Pete Williams and Eddie Mills carried out some maintenance work on steam locomotives SID and AXE respectively. Graham Varney was constructing a ballast carrying wagon for the 7.25" miniature railway.

Work in Progress: 19th January

The main job outside today was to finish off from last week, replacing the contaminated ballast from the recent flood, installing a drainpipe from the car park, and tidying up this area of the railway.
