Project Lyn and the 762 Club

Recreating L&B Railway History

an exciting and unique new project for the L&B!

Plans are now in place to build a replica of Baldwin no. 15965 by 2012. The new locomotive will look externally just like the original, while benefitting from modern engineering techniques, such as welded tanks (with dummy rivets!), higher boiler pressure and roller bearings.

The 762 Club, although closely linked to the L&B, has been set up as a separate company to raise money, build, maintain and operate the new locomotive.

Update: 1st September 2012

Steady progress continues, with the delivery to Bennet Boilers of the components for the internal regulator, manufactured by Alan Keef Engineering.

762 Club Director Jeremy Martin says:

"We always require additional funding support to keep the pace of the build moving, as can been seen from the updates over the last few months the project is making solid progress. Please help maintain this progress and contribute either through the membership route or think about sponsoring a part. It will be great to see “Lyn” at the head of the new rake of heritage coaches."

Update: 1st July 2012

With over 50% of the memberships for this project now taken up, construction is well underway, and LYD's boiler and firebox are gradually taking shape. To help support this amazing project, a number of items are available for sponsorship - including the boiler itself, for a mere £45,000!

Just added to the sponsorship items however, are a number of smaller items: over 300 boiler stays are required, each priced at £14, along with a range of other items from £100. Keep a look out though, as other items will be appearing on the sponsorship list very soon, at prices to suit all pockets!

Issue 404 (July-August 2012) of STEAM RAILWAY magazine carries an article in their ""Projects in Profile" series, about the project, entitled "Putting the 'Lyn' in Lynton & Barnstaple".
