Heddon Hall

Heddon Hall

Heddon Hall is a 4 wheeled, 60hp 4wDH locomotive built by the Hunslet Engine Company (Builder’s number 6660 of 1965), weighing 8.5 tons and fitted with a Gardner 4LW engine.

It was delivered new to the Royal Naval Armament Depot at Dean Hill,  Wiltshire where there was an extensive 2’ 6" narrow gauge railway.

Dean Hill closed in 2003, but by 2004 the loco was briefly in the ownership of Roger Craven of Essex before being resold to the L&B in August 2005.  Following a major overhaul including regauging, it entered service as Heddon Hall at the end of 2005.

The loco was used in the later part of work on the extension to Killington Lane, being well suited for work with the ballast hopper and heavy works trains.

During Autumn 2007 the loco was given a full engine overhaul and the exhaust was modified to vent through a bonnet-mounted pipe.

This loco is currently available for service.
