This book is an absolutely excellent insight into the 1952 disaster and a must for anyone interested in learning about the subject. It would also make an extremely good resource to draw upon as part of geography case studies - every school should get themselves a copy!
On 15th August 1952, Lynmouth was a victim to one of the worst floods to hit Great Britain. To this day the severe devastation and loss of life caused by this natural disaster have not been paralleled.
Interviews with survivors graphically recall the harrowing reality of that fateful night. Photographs, some not previously published, show the village before and immediately after the flood. Accounts and images of the reconstruction bring the reader up to date.
The resurrection of "England’s Little Switzerland" was greatly helped by its place held in the hearts of so many visitors - a place it still proudly occupies.
