HELP - General Manager's Equipment Fund

A new hole in the ground!

Now we have much larger rolling stock, the inspection pit at Woody Bay has become awkward to use, being too small, obstructed and no longer suitable for servicing the vehicles we now have.

Given that we also have our Baldwin LYN, we do need decent access underneath for lubrication and inspection on a frequent basis. The heritage carriages also need clear access for inspection and maintenance which with our present pit is slow, awkward and time-consuming. The time has arrived to get stuck in and extend the pit!

The new pit will increase the overall length to 13.50 metres with almost unobstructed access for work; a huge benefit, that will be appreciated by everyone who ‘goes under’ regularly or even just once in a while.

By doing much of the work ‘in-house’ we can keep the costs down. However the overall costs are estimated to be £12,500 and consequently we need to get some money into the GMF coffers fairly quickly - given that work is to commence at the end of this week!

I know that this is a big ask, but please do consider if you can make a contribution. If you can help in any way just click THIS LINK, mentioning "GMEF" in the comments field, and your kind donation (plus Gift Aid, if your donation qualifies) will be put to very good use in the expansion of the L&B.

Alternatively, please send your contribution to Woody Bay Station clearly marked ‘General Manager’s Equipment Fund’

All donations will be acknowledged and recorded - our thanks as ever for your support.

The overall construction of the pit will take about 6 weeks, so hopefully the job should be completed before we begin running in earnest in March.

Many thanks
