Johnny Kingdom Performs Celeb Opening!

Local North Devon & Exmoor Celebrity, Johnny Kingdom visited Woody Bay Station this weekend to formally open the newly refurbished tea rooms.

Johnny, whose new TV series is currently screening on BBC2, came to the railway on Good Friday making a grand entrance before greeting fans in the station. Following photos, the first timetabled train of the 2008 season departed for Killington Lane.

Upon returning Johnny commented what a great ride it was, particularly given the sighting of a hare whilst travelling down the line. Hares are not the only wildlife to be spotted from our trains - over the last year passengers may have spotted Deer, Buzzards, Swallows and Red Kites; evening visitors may also have been lucky enough to spot Pipistrelle Bats and the resident Tawny Owls.

Johnny Kingdom stayed at Woody Bay until early afternoon, continuing with book signings and autographs, before going to Parracombe for a pub lunch. Johnny's current book and range of DVDs are now available for sale to visitors in the shop.
