The work that has been ongoing since the beginning of the summer at Collard Bridge by the Environment Agency is now essentially complete. Carillion pulled out of the site last week have completed the clear up of the land, which is owned by Exmoor Associates.
The River Yeo is now equiped with a weir at Collard Bridge and a technologically up to date river gauging (monitoring) station. On Exmoor Associates owned land the lower field has been completely relevelled and seeded with a wild flower and grass mix. Under the top soil, a roadway has been left in across the field for vehicular access between the road and the railway embankment / river.
Other work also sees a new area of hard standing for vehicles inside the entrance gate, plus a new larger entrance that has been realigned level with the road. The realignment of the fence and entrance is hoped to reduce the problem of fly tipping on the site boundary.
Contractors will be returning to the site shortly for planting of deciduous native tree species to form an area of mixed woodland at the far end of the field, helping to enhance the site’s already thriving biodiversity.
