December Drains and Trackbed Walk

Saturday December 8th, several of the railway’s younguns met up to be useful around Woody Bay. Being probably the wettest day of the year that we picked, it was an ideal time to be useful in unblocking drains to try and disperse floodwaters that were threatening the day’s train operations!

After lunch a few smaller jobs were done in the shed and elsewhere before all travelling down to Killington Lane by train for a trek along the old trackbed to Parracombe.

The weather cleared beautifully for us for the afternoon, but it was very muddy under foot - fortunately everyone had come well prepared! Having battled through Cricket Field Lane’s brambles, our tour took us to the old church at Churchtown, and also the site of Parracombe halt.

In the evening, everyone headed to The Old Station Inn for Christmas dinner. As in a message from one volunteer, "Sat night was Brilliant!" - The food was great, and the company was even better. All jolly good fun!
