Restored Blue Plaque at Castle Quay Court - UPDATED

Roadworks TriangleBlue Plaques are us!

With the railway's £16m extension plans now in the public arena, and the arrival of steam loco LYN this year, combined with the growth of the business at Woody Bay Station, yet more people are becoming interested in the L&B railway and its history.

When Castle Quay Court flats were built in the 1980's at the site of Barnstaple Town Station, once the terminus of the L&B, a blue plaque was installed to inform passers-by of its history.

Over the years, the condition of the plaque has deteriorated. The owners of the flats, North Devon Homes, were contacted and arranged for their repairs service Home2Home to remove the plaque.

Thursday Gang regular Dave Bloomfield collected the plaque and took this photo of it in unrestored condition.

Once taken to Woody Bay, Jim Pounds undertook its renovation.

Again resplendent - thanks to Jim's skills.

Dave returned the plaque to North Devon Homes. Their repairs service - Home2Home - reinstated the plaque on Tuesday 22nd August. (Photo Courtesy North Devon Homes)

Our thanks to North Devon Homes and their staff for their assistance in facilitating the removal and re-installation of the plaque. Wonderful for us all to see it fully restored and back on the wall at Castle Quay Court.
