Surrey Group at Tinkers Park Rail Gala

The Surrey Support Group attended the 2nd Annual Tinkers Park Rail Gala at Hadlow Down, East Sussex, on Saturday 31st July & Sunday 1st August.
Tinkers Park is a 2ft gauge narrow gauge railway, and the locomotives include 6 diesels, a battery electric unit and 'Sao Domingos', an ex-Northern Portuguese O&K 0-6-0 well tank steam engine built in 1928. Also running at this year’s event was Hunslet ‘Quarry’ class steam locomotive 'Jack Lane' visiting from the Statfold Barn Railway. Passenger and demonstration freight trains ran on both days.

There was an exhibition of model railways with a narrow gauge theme; and a traction engine and road roller providing trailer rides around the park. A number of road vehicles including a Sentinel ‘S4’ logging tractor, a pair of steam ploughing engines and plough, traction engines, and two ex-London Transport AEC ‘RF’ single deck buses, one of which was operating the Buxted Station Shuttle. The museum displayed a selection of dancehall and fairground organs.

Tinkers Park is a new show and hence a new venue for us. Consequently the financial gain in attending this event can, at present be best described as reasonable. However it is an enjoyable outing for the sales stand volunteers, but as they say............every little helps
