Surrey Install Woody Water Tank

Members of the Surrey Area Group have completed another successful working week at Woody Bay. As well as assisting with the demolition of the old volunteer's mess hut, during the week they also managed to erect the new water tank on the previously prepared base. About 600 bolts were fitted to hold the tank sections in position.

The picture below was taken on the final afternoon (Friday 6th April 2007) and depicts three Surrey working members (from left to right) Peter Jones, Nick Brown and Phil Rawstron. Phil had to drive to Newport in South Wales on Thursday to pick up some additional sealing tape and other parts necessary to seal the bottom corners and side to bottom seam openings, as the originals were too waisted to re-use. Particular thanks are due to John Medcalf who did most of the dismantling and had to run a die over the bolts to clean them up. He then stored the bolts in an oil bath for us in readiness for our use. The tank now needs a roof, a water treatment unit, water column(s) and pipework to complete the project.
