Work in Progress: 16th November

Roadworks TriangleThe sleeper awakes - Part 2!

Roger Bye has once again sent us a selection of photos to accompany his report relating to tasks undertaken at the railway this week.

"The Thursday Gang attended Woody Bay on Wednesday this week, not as result of age related memory loss, but to avoid a 16 mile detour due to road works closing the road from Blackmoor Gate. There are a number of closures in the area over the next month so we advise you to confirm your proposed route is clear before travelling."

After last week’s euphoria about using up all 200 of the new sleeper stock....

1...a works train was loaded up with the latest delivery of another 200 sleepers.

2. After some shunting, pallets of sleepers were off loaded near the dock using the excavator.

3. Some of the gang couldn’t wait to start installing new sleepers near the station, another six sleepers being replaced today.

4. & 5 The works train then proceeded down the line where sleepers were dropped off at various locations where Martyn had been busy with the yellow paint marking defective sleepers.

6. & 7. Stacks of new sleepers were left at both accommodation crossings in advance of next January's "Winter Working Weekend". By the end of the day many of the 200 sleepers had been distributed along the line.

8 & 9. Meanwhile the Electrical Dave’s were busy installing some lighting on the station building and stable.

10...whilst Jim Price was busy constructing a new cover for a tank.

Also on site, Barrie Cann and Jim Pounds continued with their labours Both carriage painting In the Paint Shop much like last week!

A good day’s work despite the rather murky weather, cold wind and showers...but then we are 1000 ft above seal level in the middle of November!
