Nigel Thompson, now back from his holidays provides this week's overview of activity at Woody Bay

LYN is back!

1. The first L&B based loco to visit another railway, LYN is now back from the Welsh Highland Railways successful Super Power weekend. More photos HERE

2. It will be a busy month for the lorry, as next week it'll be back at Woody Bay delivering LYD in good time for our Autumn Steam Gala.

3. Safely offloaded from the lorry, LYN is brought back past the station and towards the shed by PILTON.

4. Meanwhile AXE was working today's train with....

5......Driver Graham Bridge and trainee Fireman Graham Rust.

6. Guard Bob Ayres in action checking tickets.

7. Despite the weather, the Thursday Gang continued the construction of the new steel storage sheds by the water tower. Lots of instruction reading and head scratching as they work out which bits go where.

8. Progress too with the pit safety barriers as Roger Bye and Dave Bloomfield install a gate across the line to the pit.

9. A new wheeled trolley is being assembled by Chris Shields and Malcolm Kitchen.

10. The brake van will be used at the Gala for the Goods Trains. The refurbishment and repaint work is almost complete as Jim Pounds attaches the 'SR' stickers outlining the lettering to be painted next.

11. Barrie Cann has cleaned up and is painting the BR (S) tail lamp which is used with the brake van.

12. Inside, Geoff Long puts the finishing touches to complete the repaint of the ex MOD Brake Van.

Next week it'll be all hands on deck with Gala preparations. Signs to put up, fences positioned and all the extra marquees erected and filled with tables and chairs.

13. 14. & 15. Visitors to the Gala at Woody Bay are also welcome to visit Chelfham Station which will be open from 10am both Saturday and Sunday. All visitors can view the latest restoration progress, enjoy a trackbed and woodland walk and sample some light refreshments.

As parking at the station is very limited, please park along the lane under the viaduct. SatNav EX31 4RP.
