Work in Progress: 21st December

Roadworks TriangleSanta's Sell Out!

The last Thursday work party of 2017 coincided with a busy Santa Specials day.

1. Ready to greet everyone. Father Christmas poses inside the marquee.

2. As the pre-booked visitors arrived they are greeted and checked in by a very festive Mel Maddocks and Rob Baker.

3. Then it's onto the platform for their steam train ride. For many of the children this will be their first experience of a steam train.

4. & 5. AXE, today's locomotive arriving back to Woody Bay.

6. After everyone alights they make their way along the platform to join the queue to see Santa.

7. & 8. They are then entertained by 'Captain Coconut' while refreshments are served in the marquee.

9. On their way back to the car park, they discover the miniature railway is operating today.

10. Claire Jeans looked after operations here today with another train loaded up for the children to enjoy another ride as a conclusion to their Santa Special visit today.

Meanwhile at the back of the shed.....

11. .....Barrie Cann sands down the droplight windows from carriage No. 7

And inside the shed .....

12. .....Jim Pounds checks for cracks prior to repainting.

Down at Killington Lane the track gang were busy. "Tracklaying in OO is much easier"!

13. With some of the track panels put in place earlier in the week, the work to complete the new siding at Killington Lane continued today.

14. & 15. The newly laid track panels required levelling, gauging and aligning.

16. & 17. Rails were joined with fishplates and spiked to sleepers filling the gap between the turnout and the buffer stop.

18. The work provided entertainment for visitors on the Santa Specials!

19. This view show the amended track layout designed to accommodate the new gentler radius of the run-round loop turnout. The two turnouts on the right will be removed and the buffer stop moved further back.

20. After a hard days work by all the new siding is in place and...

21. & 22....it works!

Finally just to say a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all the avid Work in Progress readers from Nigel Thompson and the other regular reporters, Roger Bye, Dave Bloomfield, Graham Bendell and Graham Rust.
