Surrey Group News

Surrey Support Group at Merstham Model Steam Show 21st/22nd May 2011

The Surrey Support Group took their Sales Stand to the Merstham Model Steam Show over the weekend of 21st/22nd May. The show was not particularly well attended and our sales were only modest. Even with the benefit of being accompanied by Paul Gower and his second-hand books, by late Sunday afternoon it became obvious that after deducting the stand fee from our takings we had made only a very small profit.

Surrey Group at Eastbourne Show

The Surrey Support Group attended the one day Eastbourne Model Railway Exhibition on Saturday, 9th April. The stand raised a lot of interest amongst the visitors that will hopefully result in two new people joining the L&BR Trust. Sales were modest, the ‘Perchance’ DVD, ‘Thomas’ toys and the current issue of the L&BR Magazine were the main items of interest.

Surrey Group Working Week at Woody Bay (11-18 September)

The Surrey Support Group is hosting a working week at Woody Bay between Saturday 11th and Saturday 18th September to help prepare for the Autumn Gala that will feature the visit of L&B replica loco ‘LYD’.

We have been tasked amongst other things to make the signs for the event that can also be reused for future events.

Surrey Group at Tinkers Park Rail Gala

The Surrey Support Group attended the 2nd Annual Tinkers Park Rail Gala at Hadlow Down, East Sussex, on Saturday 31st July & Sunday 1st August.
Tinkers Park is a 2ft gauge narrow gauge railway, and the locomotives include 6 diesels, a battery electric unit and 'Sao Domingos', an ex-Northern Portuguese O&K 0-6-0 well tank steam engine built in 1928.

Surrey Group Show Report

This weekend marks the Surrey Group Exhibition Stand’s last outing for this year. I would like to give many thanks to all those who have assisted with manning the stand during the year. At this point it is worth reflecting on our achievements for the year.

I was surprised to discover that we have actually attended ten shows this year. In addition to raising awareness of the L&B project in the South London Area, we have also been able to provide significant financial support to the developments at Woody Bay in the following ways:

Summer News Update

We have attended six major events in the first half of this year. The funds raised were initially channelled towards completion of the Water Tank Project. However since we completed that job we have been able to divert our funds towards other ventures.
