Working Party: Sat & Sun 29th & 30th November

Trees, bush and scrub clearance at Cricket Field Lane, Parracombe.

As part of preparing this part of the L & B trackbed for the future extension, we need to clear the trackbed and cutting from Parracombe Lane-Cricket Field Lane on land already owned by the L & B. 

Please bring along suitable tools to use such as bow-saws, rakes, (strimmers & chain saws if qualified to use) to help with the clearance work.

Axe nears completion - Photo Album

Work is continuing on Axe at the Gartell Light Railway at Templecombe in Somerset - in preparation for the forthcoming delivery to Woody Bay in just a few weeks time.

Two recent visits to the workshops show how close the L&B is to having its own steam loco in service, for the first time since 1935.

School holiday service

Trains are running from Woody Bay every day this week - during the school holidays - from 27 October to 2 November.  This will be followed by our Armistice Day service on Tuesday 11 November.  Santa Specials will be running on selected days during December.

Justine - our latest steam visitor

The L&B's latest visiting loco, "Justine" arrived at Woody Bay on 3 October.  An 0-4-0T built by Jung in 1906, Justine is on loan from the Gloucestershire Narrow Gauge Railway Company and will provide steam traction until the arrival of  the Trusts own loco Axe. Justine will continue to understudy Axe until the loco is properly "run in". Meanwhile, our resident engine Sid requires some attention to its boiler and motion before returni
