Extension work begins

No - not (yet) the trackbed extension towards Parracombe, but the shed extension towards Lynton.

After recent work by volunteers to clear the area immediately behind the stock shed at Woody Bay of stored equipment, and the removal of several wagon-loads of Devon soil, work began yesterday (17 February) on the erection of two additional bays.  The original planning permission, granted in 2003, was for a shed 8m by 35m. The current shed was built to 25m and the remaining 10m is now being added.

Heavy snow settling on Western Exmoor early this morning almost resulted in the cancellation of the weekly volunteers work party.

However four volunteers did manage the journey from Barnstaple, Braunton, Combe Martin and even Exeter, supplementing the two members of staff from Ilfracombe and Parracombe. The roads were clear by 10:00 although the snow lay thick and even all over the site at Woody Bay.
