Working Weekends
The next "working weekend" will be from the 26th to 28th March.
Provisionally to include cutting, burning, drainage work and fencing repairs at Cricket Field Lane. Want to know more? contact Martyn Budd or Pete Snashall.
The Basingstoke and North Hants Model Railway Society are holding their 2010 Exhibition this coming weekend, 13-14 March.
The L&BRT Thames Valley Group will be manning a stand there, so please introduce yourselves when you visit.
Also appearing is "County Gate" - John de Frayssinet’s award-winning model layout depicting the (fictional) "Minehead extension".
Taking advantage of the railway being closed to the public for a few days, work continued on the drainage ditch across the goods yard area by the concrete stable and the original Gents.
The main job today for the gang was to mix concrete and cement in to secure a ducting pipe across in front of the pedestrian gate. SR bogie open No.28320 with aggregate bags and cement on board was positioned nearby in the loading dock. The gang working as a team mixed cement to wheelbarrow across to the ditch to fix the piping in place.
Snow was falling all day at Woody Bay today. However it did not settle on the A39 and it was possible for the volunteers and the visitors to reach Woody Bay Station and enjoy steam trains in the snow!

Until recently, the L&B website included a select number of pages in languages other than English, for the benefit our overseas visitors.
Unfortunately the software used to manage this facility became unstable and has been taken out of use. To replace this, an automatic translation facility from Google has been added - to choose from over 50 languages, including several using non-Latin alphabets, use the "Select Language" drop-down box on the top right panel of any screen.
It was very cold but dry and bright winter weather on Exmoor today for the usual Thursday gang volunteers. Ian Cowling led a small group who went to Wistlandpound to continue the clearance of the trackbed and eventually light some bonfires to burn off some of the trees and undergrowth cleared recently by the IOWR volunteers during their working weekend.
Today, and for the first time since 1936, Van 23 moved on its own wheels on the L&B.
Only a short trip, moved temporarily from the loading dock to the head shunt whilst new telephone cables were trenched under the siding, but interesting to see it in a new position after all this time.
Dave Took was there to record the event:
Work at Wistlandpound was well under way this weekend, as recorded in these scenes by Tony Nicholson: The Next working weekend will be from March 26th-28th
