15/16 June: The L&B at Wigan Finescale Exhibition

The L&B North West Area Group had a society stand at the large Wigan Finescale Railway Modellers Exhibition on 15/16 June 2013.

Our stand was located adjacent to the spectacular L&B-inspired “Cliffhanger” layout in the largest of the three halls, whilst L&B rolling stock was to be seen on several other narrow gauge layouts at the show.

During the weekend, NW Group members Gerry Crocombe, Peter Ainley and Bob Barnard talked to a steady stream of visitors, most of whom were aware of the latest news from Woody Bay – the coaches, the successful Gala with Lyd, progress with rebuilding Isaac, etc., thanks to the recent publicity in the railway press. We were able to update many of them about the railway’s plans for Phase 2, a display of aerial photographs of the route creating much interest.

We handed out quite a number of Membership Forms, and also leaflets about the railway and about other attractions in the Lynton and Lynmouth area, as many enthusiasts seem to be thinking of paying the L&B a visit before too long. A number of existing members called in as well, and copies of books, magazines (and even Christmas Cards!) were in demand.

Overall, the goodwill towards the L&B from the whole railway community is considerable.

The group’s next event will be a stand and a small L&B model layout at the Apedale Valley Light Railway Gala, near Stoke-on-Trent, on 14/15 September 2013.
