Kidlington Scoutrail 2015

The weekend 4th – 5th January saw the first outing of 2015 for the exhibition stand and sales table of the Thames Valley Group.

The venue was the Exeter Hall in Kidlington, Oxfordshire. The event was “Kidlington Scoutrail 2015”. This link will take you to the Scoutrail website. At the bottom of their ‘home’ page you will find two short films taken at a previous Scoutrail event by our own Trevor Garnham.

We must thank Roger Beazer for transporting our stand and stock from Basingstoke to Kidlington and back. Thanks are also due to Roger, Colin Wells and Chris Trotman for manning our stand during the weekend.

Our three volunteers had countless conversations with many of the visitors to Scoutrail. They were pleased to find just how many of those visitors had already been to Woody Bay. They were even more pleased to learn those visitors were looking forward to future journeys on the L&BR.

However, there were plenty of visitors to our stand who knew little or nothing of the L&BR. Roger, Colin and Chris soon helped to fill the gaps in their knowledge and encouraged them to pay a visit to ‘our railway’ in North Devon.

A useful sum of money was raised for the L&BR as the result of sales and donations. Even more importantly – over 800 visitors to Scoutrail were made aware of the delights of the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway!

Our thanks to Colin Wells for taking the photos used in this report. These were taken on Saturday morning before the visitors arrived - after that it was far too busy to take any more!
