L&B at Southport – 8/9 November 2014

The L&B’s North West area group had a very successful and enjoyable weekend at the Southport Model Railway Society Exhibition on the Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th November 2014, with a display and sales stand.

The stand was manned on Saturday by Peter Ainley, Bob Barnard and John Berry, and we were joined for the morning by long-time helper Gerry Crocombe, whilst on Sunday, Bob Barnard and Dave Prime were on duty.  Our stand had Bob’s model of Caffyn’s Halt on display, with models of rolling stock that we hope will be seen there within not too many years.  Peter brought some of his G scale L&B stock on the Saturday as well.

During the weekend, it was good to meet a number of L&B members, who visited the show and introduced themselves following a recent campaign to phone local members.  There was a lot of interest from show visitors in our progress, and we handed out several membership forms.  We also received one invitation to do a talk on the L&B for the very active Southport Model Engineering Society (which already has at least one L&B member in it), and a tentative invitation to a different show in the area for 2015.

We sold a good quantity of L&B merchandise, with Christmas Cards being popular, along with the L&B’s own books of photographs of the line.

Our stand was situated opposite a large Gauge 1 live steam layout, so the few quiet moments were a chance to watch a succession of long express trains pass by, hauled by some beautiful live steam locomotives.
