L&B Talk, Manchester, Saturday 14th December

The L&B talk at the Friends Meeting House proved to be an oasis of calm in the heart of a frenetic pre-Christmas Manchester city centre.

With the extensive German Christmas Markets in full swing - and packed with people - outside the doors, and football fans heading to a City match nearby, 30 or so members of the North West Group of the Railway and Canal Historical Society gave a good reception to Bob Barnard's talk “The Lynton & Barnstaple Railway – Then and Now” on Saturday 14 December 2013.  It seemed that many of the RCHS members had visited Woody Bay, and all were keen to keep abreast of the latest developments and plans for Phase Two.  At least one person present was seriously considering L&B membership.

Bob took a selection of L&B Christmas cards, magazines and books, and sold most of them.  As is this group's custom with guest speakers, they kindly made a small donation to the L&B Railway Trust.

The next airing for Bob's talk will be in January, to an afternoon session of a course "Railways in Britain", one of many courses run by the Wilmslow Guild, a very well-established local group founded in 1926 to promote lifelong learning.
