L&BR 'on show' at Didcot Railway Centre

The L&BR Thames Valley Group stand was 'on show' at the Didcot Railway Centre during the recent Bank Holiday weekend. It was great to be able to tell visitors to our stand all about the recent public consultation exhibition and that the the planning application documents will be submitted in the next few weeks.

It was fascinating to find that some visitors knew all about the L&B while others said they often visited Lynton & Lynmouth but had no idea there was a railway nearby, other than the Cliff Lift.

A goodly number said they would be going to North Devon during the next few months. We persuaded many that their ride on the railway would be that much more enjoyable if they bought a Guide Book or other publication now so they could read up all the information in advance of their visit!

This year we were given the use of the Welford Park Booking Office instead of the tent we had occupied previously. Given the chilly wind for much of the weekend and the heavy rain on Sunday we were mighty glad to be indoors.

We must thank John Crockford, Stuart Wise and Alan Pearce for setting up and looking after the stand on Saturday. Thanks to Roger Beazer, Colin Smith and John Crockford for their stint on Sunday. Finally thank you Alan Pearce (my brother) for helping me on the Monday.

Colin Smith's photos show Roger Beazer taking the opportunity to stand outside the Booking Office between showers!
