In 2016, the NW group arranged a successful programme of events, including:
• Two afternoon meetings in Central Manchester
• A stand at two exhibitions, in Stafford and Wallasey
• A visit to Alan Keef’s Open Day to view progress with Lyn
• Three talks about the L&B, given to local groups of the Talyllyn and RCTS, and to members of Manchester Model Railway Society
Also, publicity was given to the L&B in an article published in the December 2016 issue of the 009 Society magazine “009 News”.
So, what are our plans for 2017?
Saturday 1st April 2017
We have a stand and an L&B model layout at the 009 Society AGM exhibition, in Rainford (near St Helens, Lancashire) on Saturday 1st April 2017. There will be a further L&B-themed article (about the Chelfham layout to be shown at Rainford) in 009 News, timed to coincide with this event.
Saturday 8th April 2017
The first group meeting of the year will be at the Friends Meeting House in Central Manchester on Saturday 8th April 2017. We are hoping to arrange an update briefing and Q&A session via video link from one of the L&B’s Trustees or Directors. Members in the south benefit from occasional visits by Peter Miles to their meetings, but we in the frozen north miss out on this opportunity to hear a little more of what is going on behind the scenes. Whether this proves to be possible for 8th April is still to be confirmed, but further details will be announced in due course.
Further meeting dates later in the year will be announced, as they are arranged.
Sunday 14th May 2017
We will again have a stand at the National G Scale Gathering in Stafford, which this year clashes with the L&B’s May Gala on Sunday 14 May 2017. Peter Ainley (who is leading this) will need help to man the stand, so volunteers are required.
Saturday 30th September / Sunday 1st October 2017
We will also have a stand plus L&B model layout at the large and well-attended Wigan Finescale Modellers exhibition, which this year also clashes with an L&B Gala, being on 30 Sept and 1st Oct 2017.
We seem to have given L&B talks to most railway groups in the area, but further bookings may arise as the year progresses.
