NWAG visit FR Group at Chester 28 October

Ffestiniog Railway Members meet in Chester to hear about the L&B

More than 25 members of the local Ffestiniog Railway Group gathered in an upstairs room (delightfully named the “Slaughtered Lamb”!) in the Cross Keys pub in Chester’s historic city centre, on Wednesday 28th October 2015 to hear Bob Barnard’s talk “The Lynton & Barnstaple Railway – Then and Now”.

The location of this local group of FR and WHR members is such that one member had travelled from Caernarvon, and others had spent the day operating an engineering train on the FR, before returning to Chester for the evening. The group cooperates closely with the Chester Model Railway Club in organising events, and some of their members were among the audience.

There was great deal of interest in the L&B – of course there would be among fellow 2-foot gaugers – and, rather unexpectedly many of those present said they were very surprised (and impressed) to hear how much has been achieved, and by the thorough approach that has been taken with the Planning Applications.

The surplus from donations made by those attending the meeting was kindly given as a donation towards the work of the L&BR, and it was proposed that this should go towards 762 Club funds.

The very enjoyable discussion went on until well after 10pm when, on descending the stairs, an Irish folk group was found in full swing in the main bar – we had been unaware of this upstairs!
