Thames Valley Group - an autumnal update and a reminder

Just a quick reminder about the meeting in Newbury Baptist Church Hall this Saturday 19th November. Meeting starts at 2 pm - bring money to buy Calendars, Christmas Cards plus several other L&B items, be they for yourself or as presents for family and friends!

Although the clocks have now gone back and the darker evenings are with us once again, let us cheer ourselves up by thinking of all the exciting developments taking place nowadays at our favourite railway in North Devon! In 8 weeks time we will have gone past the shortest day and the hours of daylight will be steadily increasing. We can already start to plan for a visit to Woody Bay next year, perhaps to the Spring Gala?

Since our last newsletter the Thames Valley stand has been to three different events. At the start of September we attended the Andover Model Railway Exhibition, at the beginning of October we were at the Fareham Model Railway Exhibition, then just a couple of weeks ago we went to Ropley for the Autumn Gala of the Watercress Line. Many thanks to Richard Bullock, John Jones, Roger Beazer, Colin Smith, Chris King-Smith and Alan Pearce for all their help at those various events.

Talking to the visitors who came to our stand, it has been great to hear so many complimentary remarks about Woody Bay. Those who have been there say what a friendly place it is. Many of those who only know of the L&B via magazine articles and the internet say they so much want to get down to Exmoor and see the railway in 'real life'!

And now for the reminder - Saturday 19 November is the date of the L&BR Thames Valley Group meeting in Newbury. Peter Miles (L&B Trust Chairman) and Mike Buse (Exmoor Associates Chairman) have kindly accepted our invitation to attend the meeting and to give us updates on the railway and trackbed acquisitions for future phases. Peter and Mike will both be travelling considerable distances to be with us so it would be good to have a large crowd that afternoon.

The meeting will start at 2.00 pm and continue until 4.30 pm.

The venue will be the hall of Newbury Baptist Church - more details including a map and the postcode will be found here.

The Church car park is quite small but there are several public car parks nearby. The bus station and railway station are just a few minutes walk from the Church.

Admission to the meeting is free. However, L&B books and other L&B items will be available to buy, so please bring some money with you!

The meeting is not restricted to L&B members, so please feel free to invite family and friends who might be interested in the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway. By the end of the afternoon they might even decide to become members!

If you don't really know Newbury then you might find this website useful to find somewhere to eat before or after the meeting. You might even wish to bring family or friends with you and send them Christmas shopping while you are in the meeting!

In the meantime do please have a look at the L&B website – you can easily do that by clicking here.

On the home page of the website you will see the first few paragraphs refer to the proposed purchase of the original station at Blackmoor Gate, now part of the Old Station House Inn. Under current legislation I am not permitted to encourage you to invest in the share offer, but I am allowed to give you factual information and tell you that shares are still available. Likewise, unless you are a suitably qualified Financial Adviser, you are not permitted to encourage others to invest in those shares but you are allowed to tell them about the share offer.

I look forward to seeing you in Newbury on 19 November.

Regards
