West Midlands group talk in Stratford

Mike Whiteaker, accompanied as always by wife Yvonne, gave a talk on the Lynton and Barnstaple Railway to the Stratford-upon-Avon Railway Circle on Monday, 27th October  at St Andrew’s Hall, Shottery.

The talk was arranged through the Circle’s founder, Canon David Capron, who is also an L&B member and keen supporter of the railway.

The talk followed the usual format of two Powerpoint presentations, one covering the 1898-1936 period and the second covering the railway’s revival and future plans.  These were separated by a tea-and coffee-break, during which a slide show was displayed featuring recent photos of the railway, including LYD and the heritage coaches at the recent Autumn Gala.  Mike also took the exhibition stand and a small amount of merchandise which attracted a lot of interest.

About 22 members of the Circle were present, a number of whom were sufficiently impressed to ask for L&B membership applications forms.”

The next meeting of the West Midlands Area Support Group will be at 07.30 on Friday, 5th December at Kidderminster Railway Museum – please bring your mince pies!
