All members of the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway Trust share a passion for the railway and all are obviously anxious to see its continued ongoing success. However there are three difficulties that some members who reside beyond easy travelling distance of Woody Bay may encounter:
- A difficulty of meeting other members of the L&BR Trust, who in time may well become good friends;
- Finding a way and means of becoming an active member of the Trust whilst living some distance from the railway; and
- Supporting and promoting the Railway at events near to their place of residence.
Many members want the satisfaction of doing something beyond the payment of an Annual Subscription. To overcome these difficulties, the Surrey Area Group of the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway Trust was formed in February 1991 to bring together those members who reside within the County of Surrey and the surrounding area for the purpose of promoting and supporting the Trust’s efforts to restore, reopen and operate the railway in Devon.
This is achieved in a number of ways including:
- Publicising the Railway at shows and exhibitions within Surrey and the surrounding area;
- Organising fund raising activities;
- Working visits to Woody Bay (usually with sponsored overnight accommodation); and
- Undertaking restoration projects locally (for transportation to Devon when complete).
If you are a member of the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway Trust and resident within our locality, then why not join us to support our railway. Membership of the Surrey Area Group is free. Member’s receive three copies of "Tablet Magazine" each year, either by post or email (your choice). By joining the Group you have nothing to loose, but everything to gain.
