The railway is open and operating to the low season timetable
Come and experience the delights of an authentic Victorian steam train and enjoy stunning Exmoor scenery.
After being closed earlier this year due to the lockdown imposed because of the Coronavirus pandemic, the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway is now open again.
When did the railway reopen?
Saturday 18th July
What days will you be open?
We intend to operate to our usual timetable. As the majority of services depend upon our volunteers, issues beyond our control might occur.
What timetable will you operate?
We aim to run the published low season timetable.
How can I buy tickets?
Tickets are available on the day purchased at Woody Bay Station. Remember a ticket purchased allows you to travel all day plus receive a 50% discount on future tickets purchased within 30 days.
Do I need to bring anything with me?
Visitors should bring a face-covering. As most of our coaching stock is divided into small compartments, individuals or families in their own ‘bubble’ are not obliged to wear face protection, however, Government guidelines may change.
It would be appreciated if you could bring a contactless payment card. We will accept cash, but every step we can all take to keep people safe would be appreciated.
Will you have catering on site as before?
At present we cannot offer our usual freshly prepared items. However take-away items will be available including tea, coffee, sandwiches, cold drinks, ice-cream and snacks.
What preparations have you undertaken?
Our staff and volunteers have been kept very busy checking and undertaking essential maintenance activities.
We have followed the relevant Government guidelines on the easing of lockdown arrangements and the re-opening of businesses.
Will passengers with reduce mobility still be able to travel?
Yes our disabled access ramps will be available as usual
What steps are you taking to ensure cleanliness?
Sanitizer will be available at strategic positions around the site. Additional cleaning of the carriages will also take place.
We will be pleased to see you and will do our very best to make sure that our railway is a safe place for you and your family to visit. We ask that you work with us as we recommence operations and get used to a new way of working.
Please respect social distancing protocols - our shop area is not that big.
