APPEAL - BRIDGE THE GAP!

FUNDS ARE NEEDED TO COMPLETE THE REINSTATEMENT OF BRIDGES 54 & 55

The "Last Train" at Bridge No.55

Phase IIA of the reconstruction of the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway between Blackmoor Gate and Wistlandpound Reservoir requires the re-instatement and repair of two bridges, No.s 54 and 55. We have been successful in applying for European Leader 5 Grant Aid which will contribute up to £60,000 of the total cost of £220,000. This appeal aims to raise £160,000 to complete the reinstatement - some of which can be provided by Gift Aid so please sign the Gift Aid Declaration.

The work required is to refurbish, replace and repair the original bridge abutments and undertake associated earthworks around the bridges, supply and fit new steel and concrete decking, waterproof the deck, fit side rails and make ready for track laying. Work has commenced and should be completed by September 2019. We anticipate using volunteer labour where appropriate to reduce any unnecessary capital expenditure.

Detailed technical design work has been completed for both bridges and their reinstatement is part of the re-opening of a further one-mile section of the railway between Blackmoor Gate and Wistlandpound Reservoir that has been granted detailed planning permission by North Devon Council.
