The Taunton to Barnstaple Line, a history of the Devon & Somerset Railway Volume 1

The Taunton to Barnstaple Line
All of the ex-Southern routes into Barnstaple have long-had well-written and detailed published histories. The ex-GWR line from Taunton, has lacked such coverage, until now. Subtitled "From Conception to Demise" at 232 pages, Volume 1 covers the history of the Devon & Somerset Railway from its inception to its demise. Starting with the trials and tribulations of financing the venture, through to its protracted construction in the 1860/70s,its  takeover by the GWR, two world wars and expansion in the 1930s, the story culminates with the sad decline of the 1950s and its closure as part of the Beeching Axe in 1966.
Written by Freddie Huxtable and published by the Lightmoor Press, this volume will be welcomed by all those with an interest in North Devon railways.
