2nd Report - September Working Weekend

September 2019 Working Weekend - Wistlandpound

A return visit to Wistlandpound (last time was back in January 2010) and the first September working weekend. This is to carry out clearance of the intended station site and approaches so that survey and design work can be completed.

James Bloomfield has now sent us these photos of work carried on Sunday

For today's report I have concentrated on the activities at the Blackmoor end of the work area.

1. Upon arrival the local contractor was already busy taking loads of cut wood to the bonfire.

2. The railway is carried on a substantial embankment at this point. The gang continued clearing the sides while the railway's excavator can be seen at track level.

3. Construction Design Team members, Chris Duffell and John Barton and his wife, discuss progress.

4. In the other direction, the view towards Bridge 52.

5. Time for a tea break.

6. The embankment from the other side of the line.

7. A close-up of the embankment's construction with dry stone walling at the base, still in very good condition.

8. Looking towards Blackmoor, the current limit of this weekends work.

9. In the other direction, towards Bridge 52.

10. Hugh Bland admires the weekend's substantial work from Bridge 52.

We'll be back here the last full weekend in November, so why not come along and join the fun.

11. Who's that working in the distance under Bridge 52?

12. It's John Heys, mirroring a scene from more than eighty years ago.
