Winter Working Weekend 23 November Photos Part II

Winter Working Weekend Part II

The weekend-work took place on the recently acquired trackbed at Dean Steep near Barbrook.

The main task for the weekend was to begin the reinstatement of almost ½ mile of fencing and this comprised:

  • Clearance of brush and scrub to expose the fence line.
  • Removal of “blown” posts.
  • Salvaging and repositioning good posts.
  • Installing new straining posts.
  • Completing with wire and droppers.

Lifting out old posts and straightening others.

Time for tea and biscuits!

Back to work.

A gate needed rehanging and anti-sheep-escape netting installed.

Most of the fencing kept it's original line. However, in this location the ground above the fence had slipped or been trodden down onto the fence, the remains of the fence retaining the ground. It was felt that removing these posts would destabilize the bank,  consequently these were left in place and a new fence line installed above.

Overall, we came out just about on par with there being just enough serviceable posts to complete the job with the increased spacing, using intermediate droppers. As you may have spotted in some of the photos we did use one our newly cast SR straining posts.

Once again our many thanks to all those that travelled far and wide to take part in this working weekend. If you want to be a part of the next one, send us a email.
