Work in Progress: 14th February

Roadworks TriangleFebruary 14th, St Valentine's Day!

Roses are red, violets are blue
The railways reopening soon
And there's so much to do!

This weeks report is once again provided by Nigel Thompson.

The L& B volunteers love the railway so much, that several of them can on this romantic day, give up the lure of a Valentine's lunch meal with their 'better-halves' to continue much important work in preparing the railway for the half-term trains commencing this Sunday.

1. Tim Woods found a painting job inside the Tea-Rooms. These now red shelves are for the catering displays in the marquee.

2. Company Director Brom Bromidge, was busy by the marquee. His project is to prepare a baseboard and display case for a small model railway which is intended to be operated by visitors as an extra attraction within the marquee.

3. Along the line, in glorious bright, spring like weather,  the track gang are busy. More stone blowing and packing was undertaken here.

4. Tamping was carried out further along the line continuing from last week's progress.

5. More recent preparations have seen the former Ladies Waiting Room (second hand bookshop), tidied up.

6. The Marquee has been cleaned and swept and the tables laid out suitably tested by the gang here.

7. Nigel Thompson spent the day sorting out the stable which contains the railway's interactive computer game, current progress displays and a selection of pre-owned books and DVD's.

8. The other Nigel (Spencer) with his green paint went around the station touching up where necessary.

9. A rare photo of the "Paint Shop Boys" outside in daylight! Barrie, Jim and Geoff check how their last years project - Carriage No.7- is fairing a year later.

Words and photos by Nigel Thompson, apart from 3 and 4 provided by Roger Bye.
