Work in Progress - Woody Bay Thursday 6 November 2008

A small but dedicated gang of volunteers continue working at Woody Bay in preparation for Armistice Day, the Santa Specials and the 2009 season,

Nigel Thompson sent in the following illustrated report for Thursday 6 November.

Toilet Block

The roof is now complete with just the rendering of the walls remaining.

The access path was constructed today. A mini JCB operated by our contractor laid out a gravel drive alongside the loading dock bankside. A new rail posted wooden fence will segregate the visitors heading towards the toilets from the railway operations by the loading dock.

Lineside 'furniture' display

footpath to new toilets, woody Bay October 2008

Volunteers have 'planted' examples of concrete SR gradient posts, an L & B Bridge post (No. 15) sign and a replica wooden milepost in the raised bank by the new toilet access path. These items of lineside 'furniture' will be part of a larger display educating visitors into the often forgotten interesting railway relics that can be found alongside the railway lines.

If anyone has any other railway paraphenalia such as these posts and would like to help with the display then please contact the station via phone or email.

 Carriage maintenance

The carriage floors and running boards have been painted by volunteers on the Thursday gang.
