Devon Group Day Out: 9th October

Eleven L&B Trust members enjoyed the monthly day out from Barnstaple to Exeter, Totnes and the South Devon Railway to Buckfastleigh where there was time to view an L&B operating day on the 16mm live steam railway by Julian & Lindsay Palmer and the South Devon Garden Railway Group's layout.

2. Steam haulage on the SDR today was ex GWR Pannier Tank posing as L.92 as part of the London Underground's 150th anniversary celebrations.

3. Julian Palmer shows off the L&B Manning Wardles to Dave Bloomfield and others on the 16mm Railway layout at Buckfastleigh.

4. Lindsay Palmer has her own train - a battery loco with a wedding service and cameraman which always brings an alternative interest from the train watchers.

5. Watching the live steam L & B train passing by.

6. The L & B Devon Group members enjoy the L&B (SR) train running round the layout.

8. After lunch at the SDR cafe at Buckfastleigh, and the return to Totnes, there was time for a short visit to Dawlish for some sea air..........

9. ..........and the obligatory visit to a pub - The Railway Inn at Dawlish.  Upon our return to Exeter it was more time for yet another pub visit -The Wetherspoons Imperial at Exeter before the usual 18:57 train back to Barnstaple.

Next trip around Devon is Wed 13th November - still to be arranged but Exmouth & Honiton have been suggested. All L&B Trust members are welcome to join us - contact Nigel for further details.

Christmas trip will be Wednesday 18th December with a ride to Plymouth for Christmas lunch at one of the Wetherspoons pubs -booking required beforehand, contact Nigel as above.
