Devon Group News: Rail Trip to Bodmin & Wenford Steam Railway

Heres rather belatedly is the report of our last Devon Group trip......

Twelve L&BR staff, volunteers and friends turned out for the 14th August trip from Barnstaple to Bodmin. Using GroupSave tickets we travelled on the 0843 service (A class 150 Sprinter) to Exeter St Davids. Then the 1014 FGW HST all the way to Bodmin Parkway meeting Julian & Lindsay Palmer who joined us for the afternoon.

1. A group photo of everyone at Bodmin Parkway Station.

2. Lunch at Bodmin was at the local Wetherspoons - Chapel an Gansblydhen.

3. The group enjoy beer and food in the converted chapel.

4. Back at Bodmin General awaiting the engine for the train to Boscarne Junction.

5.One of the locos used today was the very appropriate (for SR fans) LSWR T9 No.30120.

6. The L & B group occupied a couple of Mk 1 compartments on the train.

7. Back at Bodmin Parkway with T9
No.30120 behind.

8. The schedule allowed time for a visit to another Wetherspoons pub - the Imperial at Exeter. The group enjoy a beer outside before heading back to St Davids for the evening train to Barnstaple.

Our next rail trip is Wed 18th September which will be from Barnstaple & Exeter to Plymouth and on to Bere Ferrers for a tour and buffet lunch at the Tamar Belle Railway Museum. All L&B friends, members and volunteers welcome - contact Nigel Thompson for further details.
