Devon Group trip to South Devon Railway

Devon Group Rail (& rail replacement bus!) trip to South Devon Railway
Wed 19 February

Eight L&B people made the February trip this week; from Barnstaple to Buckfastleigh. No problems on the Tarka line as we made it to Exeter St. Davids ready to find our rail replacement bus past the Dawlish sea wall breach and repairs. First Great Western were even providing complimentary tea and coffee at both Exeter and Newton Abbot stations for us travellers.

1. The group and their Hemmings coach after arrival at Totnes

2. We enjoyed a ride on the South Devon Railway with Pannier Tank L92 in charge.

3. The SOUTHERN devotees amongst us were pleased to see M7 30053 stabled at Buckfastleigh.

4. Our friends at the South Devon Miniature Railway (7.25" gauge) were having a work party day and had agreed to run a special train just for us. The group join the train at the station.

5. After lunch we returned to Totnes, to find another rail replacement bus all the way to Exeter. At 6pm four of us finally had time for a pint up at the usual Imperial Wetherspoons pub. Back to Barnstaple on the 1857 Class 150 for another good value if not different Devon trip.

The Devon Group's next trips are on Wed 19 March; to Christow E & TVR, then Wed 23 April; by rail (hopefully) all the way to Liskeard for the Looe branch. All welcome. Contact Nigel Thompson, for more details.
