Devon Group visit Bovey Tracey, Paignton and Dawlish

Five L&BR regulars journeyed by rail from Barnstaple to Exeter, then to Newton Abbot for a bus to Bovey Tracey.

1. The gang pose outside Bovey Tracey old railway station - now a museum and Heritage Centre.

2. Time for tea, coffee and biscuits provided especially for us by the museum volunteers.

3. The restored ex-GWR Toad Brake Van houses a model of Mortenhampstead Station. Posing on the balcony, the gang enjoy their visit to this little-known but very informative railway museum in Devon.

4. After a pub lunch in Bovey, bus to Newton Abbot and train to Paignton it was time for afternoon tea at a cafe overlooking the choppy seas today.

5. Next it was another train to Dawlish and a brief sea wall walk observing several passing trains, including this FGW Class 150 on a service to Paignton.

6. There was time for a pint at the Railway Inn, Dawlish before catching the train back to Exeter and home to Barnstaple.

The next Devon Group rail trip will be to Seaton, Pecorama and Beer Heights Railway in a date to be arranged in late October.

On Wednesday 19 November another trip is planned around Devon using the Devon Day Ranger ticket.

The Christmas lunch rail trip will be Wednesday 17 December - possibly to a local Wetherspoons in Exeter.

All L&B staff and volunteers are welcome...
