Kent Group Report: Dunkirk Show

The first 2014 outing of the L&B Kent Group exhibition stand took place at Dunkirk (the village in Kent - not France!) on 31st May.

A gentle introduction to the art of supporting the L&B at exhibitions, this was a small local show, organised by the East Kent Model Railway Society (Whitstable) with just six layouts (two were narrow gauge, and one was both narrow and standard gauge), one trade stand, one "society stand" (that was us!) plus a video of the club's own 20ft-long layout, and refreshments.

Anne - who lives nearby - had set up the stand the evening before, so all I had to do was set up the Laptop with a couple of hours L&B footage, and a selection of my Peco L&B rolling stock on a length of track, then we set out the L&B Merchandise.

Some views of the stand. with the third member of the Kent Group Exhibition team "Ellen Bee" (wearing her Hi-viz) who entertained some of our younger visitors with her "laughing dance"

From opening time, there was a small but steady trickle of visitors, and we were able to sell a few items, as well as discuss the L&B with several people who were new to the subject, as well as a few with more knowledge. I was surprised at how many people said they have or do visit Devon - now several more know about the magic that is Woody Bay, and all promised to visit next time they were in Devon!

We have been invited to another show - in Deal on 2nd August - so look out for more details...

With thanks to Paul (Show organiser and Anne's neighbour), Nick (Club Chairman) and the other members of East Kent Model Railway Society (Whitstable), who all made us very welcome.
