North West Group meeting in Manchester 11 June 2016

The next North West Area Group meeting will be at the Friends Meeting House, 6 Mount Street, Manchester, M2 5NS, on Saturday 11 June 2016 from 1400 to 1630.

Those coming by tram should remember that the St Peter's Square stop is currently closed. There is a signed walking route from Deansgate Castlefield stop.

Local member Peter Ainley will show videos he took of three railways he was able to visit during a trip to Australia earlier in 2016:

  • The famous Puffing Billy line, in the hills east of Melbourne, home to the NA-Class Baldwin-designed 2-6-2T engines (very much our own Lyn's big sisters);
  • The Walhalla Goldfields Railway, deep in Eastern Victoria, another of VR's 2ft 6in gauge lines. Less well-known than Puffing Billy, this line is twinned with the L&B;
  • The third railway is at Queenstown in Tasmania, and covers a short trip on the Abt rack section up to Rinadeena.

Do come along and support us. We plan to leave time in the meeting to discuss matters L&B, and to plan our future activities as a group.
