Thames Valley Group - Basingstoke MRE

The L&BR Thames Valley Group took their information and sales stand to the Basingstoke Model Railway Exhibition on Saturday and Sunday 9 – 10 March

During the Saturday I thought several times that while we were busy telling folk in North Hampshire about ‘our railway’, at the same time Bob Barnard and members of the North West Area Group were busy telling folk in Pudsey, Yorkshire about the very same railway! We all live many miles from Woody Bay, yet each of the L&B members manning the two stands gains great pleasure and enjoyment from the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway. We want others to travel down to North Devon and discover the delights of Exmoor, Lynton and Lynmouth and in particular "our railway".

The layouts and traders at the Basingstoke show occupied three large halls and attracted over 2000 visitors during the two days of the show. We enjoyed many interesting conversations with the visitors to our stand. It was great to talk with people who had been to Woody Bay during the past year, some as the result of similar conversations at the Basingstoke show in 2018.

We also spoke with many who had never even heard of the L&B. We are hopeful that as the result of our conversations, and reminded by the various leaflets we gave them, they too will make the trip to North Devon during the course of the next twelve months and tell us at the 2020 Basingstoke MRE just how much they enjoyed their visit to Woody Bay Station!

Thanks are due to John Crockford, Stuart Wise, Roger Beazer, John Jones and Alan Pearce for all their help during the course of the weekend.
