Thames Valley Group Newsletter – Autumn 2017

Dear L&BR Supporter:

We are now certainly into autumn, but how good it is to be able to look back and recall what a glorious summer we had this year – it is not often we can do so. Good also to look back to the L&BR Autumn Gala and remember what a terrific event that was!

Whether or not you were able to get to Woody Bay that weekend I am sure you will enjoy watching and listening to a short film which has been created by Trevor Garnham – you can view that by clicking here. This is just a brief trailer for a new Gala Days DVD which will be on sale in early December. It will be available online or by mail order from the Woody Bay shop - do make sure you add that DVD to your Christmas ‘wish list’.

Since our last newsletter the TVG stand has been to the Watercress Line Steam Gala and to Model Railway Exhibitions in both Andover and Fareham. You can see more detail and some photos by clicking here and here.  At all three venues it was great to discover just how much interest and support exists for the resurgent Lynton & Barnstaple Railway.

Now a date for your diary. The next Thames Valley Group meeting in Newbury will be on the afternoon of Saturday 18 November. Our speaker will be Peter Miles, Chairman of the L&BR Trust and L&BR CIC. Peter will bring us all up to date with the latest news about the various plans to extend and enhance ‘our railway’. This is a very exciting time for the L&B – it will be good to hear the official version of the news from the ‘man at the top’!

The meeting will be in our usual venue, the hall of Newbury Baptist Church in Cheap Street - more details including a map and the postcode will be found here.

The meeting will start at 2.00 pm and continue until 4.30 pm.

The Church car park is quite small but there are several public car parks nearby. The bus station and railway station are just a few minutes walk from the Church.

Admission to the meeting is free. However, L&B books and other L&B items will be available to buy, so please do remember to bring some money with you!

The meeting is not restricted to L&B members, so please feel free to invite family and friends who might be interested in the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway. By the end of the afternoon they might even decide to become members!

If you don't really know Newbury then you might find this website useful to find somewhere to eat before or after the meeting.

If there are any particular L&B books or other items you would like to take home from that meeting then please send me an email. I will then try to ensure that I bring home suitable stock from Woody Bay when I visit North Devon in early November. If you have a look at this page that will remind you of what books and other items are currently available from the L&B shop.

I look forward to seeing you at the Newbury meeting on 18 November.
