Thames Valley Group Newsletter - Summer 2015

L&B TVG Newsletter Summer 2015

“Summer? What summer?”, I hear you cry. As L&B supporters we must always be optimistic, especially when it comes to the weather!

Next meeting Newbury – Saturday 17 October

Do please make a note of this date in your diary right away. All who are interested in the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway are welcome to attend a meeting at 2.00 pm on Saturday 17 October.  Peter Miles (L&BR Chairman) has promised to attend the meeting to update us on all the latest news and to answer all your questions. Trevor Garnham will be showing us some film clips of the railway. This will be an opportunity to meet with fellow L&B enthusiasts and to be transported in our minds for a couple of hours to the glorious surroundings of Woody Bay

The venue for the meeting will be the Church Hall of Newbury Baptist Church, Cheap Street, Newbury, RG14 5DD. This is the hall we used for our meetings in 2013. Car parking at the Church is limited, but there are several public car parks nearby. The railway station and bus station are just a few minutes walk from the Church premises.

Feel free to bring family and friends with you. There will not be an entry fee but please bring plenty of cash with you so you can purchase various L&B items, including 2016 calendars and Christmas cards.

Forthcoming events

The Thames Valley Group stand will be attending a couple of model railway exhibitions in the next few weeks. If you visit one or both of them please do say hello to the people on our stand – it is always good to meet other L&B supporters.

Andover MRE - Saturday 5 September and Sunday 6 September

As noted in our Spring Newsletter this is a new location for our group. The venue will be the John Hanson School, Andover. Opening hours are 10 - 5 on Saturday and 10 - 4 on the Sunday.

See this link for more details.

We do have good support for the Sunday but would appreciate some more help for the Saturday. If you live in or near Andover do please have a look in your diary and see if you could spare an hour or so to spread the word of the L&BR.

Fareham MRE - Saturday 3 October and Sunday 4 October

This is another new location for our group. Opening hours are 10 - 5.30 on Saturday and 10 - 4.30 on the Sunday. See this link for more details. I am grateful to several members who have offered help for this exhibition.

And finally…

You will be pleased to know that the Thames Valley Group recently gave £250 to the L&B Trust towards the cost of wood for the next set of heritage coaches. The purchase of this timber will allow the folk at Great Yeldham to ‘keep the production line going’!

I look forward to seeing you at 2.00 pm in Newbury Baptist Church Hall on 17 October.
