Thames Valley Group visit to Fareham MRE

The L&BR Thames Valley Support Group took their publicity and sales stand to Fareham and District Model Railway Club’s annual exhibition recently. This was a two day event, held over the weekend 7 – 8 October. This link gives more information about the show.

Thanks are due to John Jones, Roger Beazer, Richard Bullock and Alan Pearce who manned the stand at various times during the weekend. A surprising number of visitors told us they had attended the Autumn Gala at Woody Bay the previous weekend – they all said how much they enjoyed that event and how friendly everyone was.

Many others had not even heard about the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway. They were fascinated and amazed when we told them of what has been achieved in North Devon since Woody Bay Station was purchased in 1995. They were captivated by the video of the re-awakened railway, especially the sight of LYD hauling the four heritage carriages towards Woody Bay Station, set against the backdrop of the hills surrounding the Heddon Valley. They greatly admired the photos of LYN and are now looking forward to seeing her in action when they visit the railway next year.

Several family groups said they had already booked accommodation in North Devon for the imminent half term holiday. They have now added a visit to Woody Bay to their list of places to visit and things to do.

Sales figures for the weekend were excellent. Above all it was good to know we had encouraged many more people to visit and stay in Lynton and Lynmouth or elsewhere on Exmoor and, in particular, to visit Woody Bay Station!

Above John Jones (2nd from left), Roger Beazer (4th from left) and Alan Pearce (5th from left) all busily talking with visitors to the stand. Front left we see one of James Bloomfield's excellent mounted photos of LYD at Woody Bay. The black and white prints were particularly admired. We sold several and thanks to James's generosity every penny geos towards extending the railway. These prints are also available from the shop at Woody Bay as well as from other Area Groups.
