Celebrating 75 Years of People, Passion and Preservation
This year we celebrate the breadth of narrow-gauge railway preservation in this its 75th year, over the last weekend of September where we traditionally commemorate the closure of the iconic Lynton and Barnstaple Railway.
This year we have two very special and unusual guest engines which, along with our home fleet, represents the wide spectrum that covers narrow gauge heritage.
The ’Thomas Telford’ steam tram, which was highly commended at this year’s Heritage Railway Association Awards makes a rare trip away from the Telford Steam Railway visiting the Southwest for the first time and, Lister Railtruck 11410, formerly a sewage works locomotive, joins us from a private collection in Devon.
Our thunderbird diesel mechanical engine Pilton, former resident of Queensland Australia will be in passenger service with the rarely seen Hunslet Prototype No. 1 out sporting its new livery, as will our diminutive ex Royal Naval Armaments Depot (RNAD) Hunslets.
L&BR’s iconic Baldwin e762 and Bagnall 2819, formerly from the Tongat Sugar Mill South Africa will be in traffic from the park and ride site at Killington Lane.
We’ll have an intensive service of rare combinations of haulage and photo opportunities. There'll be traditional entertainment, a real ale and cider bar, a BBQ, classic cars, tractions engines and a marquee with railway related attractions - all within the atmospheric surroundings of the Grade 2 listed Woody Bay station.
