At the members' forum last Saturday in Lynton we lanched the appeal for the overhaul of our Kerr-Stuart 'Joffre' locomotive Axe with a special screening of the launch film. This special epiosde of 'Steam on the Moor' is now live over on You Tube via this link.
We've also built a Project Axe funding page with details of how you can make one off or regular donations via our various funding platforms to help us meet our goal. Large donations will get exclusive rewards.
Axe last steamed at the Remembrance Service in 2024 with the boiler ticket expiring after having been in regular service since 2009. We need to overhaul Axe by lifting and inspecting the bolier, changing the boiler tubes, striiping down and refurbishing the running gear and improving pipework in the cab.
Axe is a much loved locomotive with a long history at the L&BR and has particular historic importance give its role in World War I.
