New film in the Woody Bay café

4th May, 2025

Regular visitors to Woody Bay may have noticed our new 'Steaming Today' board at the entrance to the station providing visitors with information on the days' engine in steam.

This has been developed as a part of the national Railway 200 initiative under which, through the kind sponsorship of SKF, we’ve had a new set of interpretation boards designed for the Woody Bay, Blackmoor (Old Station Inn) and Chelfham. These give insights through words and pictures into the fascinating history of the railway and will be installed over the coming weeks to form a new 'rail trail'. The recent Episode 17 of 'Steam on the Moor' gave a sneak peek of couple of these boards  as well as the new mini-museum in the café, again part of Railway 200.

Another part of this information jigsaw went live today with a new rolling video on the big screen in the Woody Bay café. The eight minute film includes an historical overview of the railway and its subsequent revival, details on our locomotives and rolling stock, plus snapshots into the Old Station Inn (Blackmoor) and Chelfham sites. It also features the attractions at Woody Bay, the woodland walk, minature and garden railways, our nearby partner attractions and important information on how visitors can become mebers, support us and get involved through volunteering.

Remember to have a watch next time you're in Woody Bay with, perhaps, a hot drink and a snack between trains!
