Work has started on the carriage shelter!

27th June, 2025

As visitors to Woody Bay will be aware, after securing planning permission for the carriage shelter our dedicated volunteers have been beavering away making the necessary changes to the track-work. With a recent delivery of sleepers those activities are almost complete with the connection of the dock road into transshipment siding.

Today, we’re pleased to announce that our contractors have arrived at Woody Bay to start to the main works by building the gabion wall along the carriage shelter site. They’ll then undertake the foundation works for the structure with the erection of the steel framing thereafter before roofing and installation of the wooden boarding to finish.

We’ve had to make a start now to complete the main erection works before our intensive 7-day operations begin over the busy school holidays. This means that we’ll be able to use the shelter well before the Exmoor winter starts to set in.

We still need your help to fund this essential project, every donation small or large helps take care of our unique carriages, meaning existing and future customers can enjoy a key part of what makes the L&B so special.
